Do not put a wall directly behind the vocal
If a vocal turns blurry as soon as reverb is added, listen to the start point before shortening the tail. When reflection begins after a very small gap, the vocal remains close while the room opens behind it. Good space is not an effect that sends sound away; it creates another timing layer behind the sound.
